Mike Tryon

Since taking his seat in the House of Representatives in 2004, Tryon has worked hard in Springfield and at home to represent the interests of the people of the 64th District. His ability to listen and work with others has resulted in substantial legislative accomplishments over the last six years. Just a few of these accomplishments include:
- Securing $46 million in road money for District 64
- Saving taxpayers millions through a revised tax cap law
- Never voting for a state tax increase
- Improving public safety through a groundwater protection law
- Increasing government accountability through a new transparency in spending law
- Initiating legislation to protect home equity
During the 2010 Legislative Session, Mike served on the following House committees:
- Committee of the Whole
- Environment & Energy
- Environmental Health
- Health Care Availability Access
- Least Cost Power Procurement
- Local Government
- Smart Growth/Regional Planning
- Mass Transit
- Impact Fee Task Force
- Environmental Quality Subcommittee
- Foreclosure Subcommittee
Known as a leader and consensus builder, Mike Tryon has become a very effective and respected lawmaker in Illinois. In addition to serving as the State Representative for District 64, Mike Tryon is the Chairman of the McHenry County Republican Party and the Chairman of the Illinois Collar County’s Republican Party.
The 64th District includes Algonquin, Barrington Hills, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Lake in the Hills, Lakewood and Trout Valley.

Cedra Crenshaw

Cedra Crenshaw is a Bolingbrook Republican vying to unseat Democratic state Sen. A.J. Wilhelmi. The 43rd District has been a Democratic stronghold since 1975, but Republicans believe that Crenshaw, 37, is their best bet in years to win the seat.
“She can do what others haven’t done,” said Richard Kavanagh, chairman of the Will County Republicans and one of Crenshaw’s attorneys. “It’s painfully clear that the Chicago Democrats don’t want her on the ballot because they are afraid of her.”
The 43rd District includes DuPage, Lockport, Joliet, Jackson and Manhattan counties.
The Democratic Party tried to invalidate Crenshaw’s nominating petitions by way of a technicality–which has come back to bite them after an Illinois judge ruled that a darling of the national Tea Party will be on the ballot in the Illinois State Senate race, despite Democrats’ attempts to knock her out.
Crenshaw, whose shoestring campaign has raised $12,535 while Wilhelmi’s campaign war chest holds $140,000, has billed herself as an independent taking on a powerful Democrat. But Democrats note she has the strong backing of the GOP, which sent Evergreen Park attorney Burt Odelson to represent her in Will County. Odelson represented President George W. Bush in the 2000 presidential election recount in Florida.
What she stands for:
Open the books and cut the waste.
- Conduct a “top-to-bottom” Forensic Audit of state spending – this will save Illinois taxpayers billions.
- Reform the budget process – 7 day “read the bill” timeout on legislation, advocate of zero based budgeting.
- Reform tax and spend addiction – Illinois has a spending problem, not a revenue problem.
- Reform public employee pension system – Illinois pensions are the worst funded of the 50 states with an $80 billion shortfall.
Ethics & Corruption
Full process and financial transparency- with narrow limits, all public information online just like Florida.
- Enact Term Limits – through the legislature if possible and through citizen referendum if necessary.
- Establish Fair Redistricting – end gerrymandered legislative districts.
- End Pay to Play – enact similar legislation to Gov. Bobby Jindal’s “Gold Standard” Ethics in Louisiana.
Job Creation
Reduce burdens on job creators and revitalize favorable business environment.
- Taxation – Remove excessive taxes and fees on businesses and individuals.
- Regulation – Streamline stifling bureaucracy and ease small business formation.
- Litigation – Reign in and reform frivolous lawsuits.
Education Reform
Fund children not bureaucracy.
- Bust the cap on charter schools to build capacity
- Gradually expand opportunity scholarships to increase competition
- Empower parents to convert public schools to charter schools
Social Issues
- Life – I am pro-life. Human life begins at conception and should be treated with dignity from conception through natural death. Human life is unique, precious, and fragile, and should be protected under the law
- Marriage – I support traditional marriage. The union of a natural father and mother is the best environment for raising a child. The definition of marriage should remain as one man and one woman.
- 2nd Amendment – I will support the right of the people of Illinois to keep and bear arms. The recent Supreme Court case, District of Columbia v. Heller, found that to keep and bear arms is an individual right. I support that decision and will work to protect law abiding citizens’ rights to self-defense.
