Right now, there are competing forces vying for power in the new Congress. The forces of big government don’t care that Americans rallied, volunteered, donated and voted for smaller government and more freedom. We need to keep reminding them of that and that we will be watching.
Whispering in the ear of every new senator and congressman is the voice of temptation.” Listen to me. The people will forget what you’ve done before the next election. If you support spending cuts, you’ll lose re-election! Spend this money and You’ll get cash for your campaign!” and on and on…
And sadly, time and time again, too many conservatives cave in to these scare tactics. We must hold these politicians accountable and make sure they stand strong against the forces of politics as usual.
One of the biggest mandates to the newly elected senators and congressmen is to fight to CUT, not Just freeze, federal spending. Deficit spending was one of the biggest issues in the 2010 election. And Americans are sick and tired of big government tax and spend policies. On November 2, they vented their outraged at Obama’s spending spree, and sent hundreds of Democrats packing.
We voted against:
*The $800 billion dollar “stimulus” special interest spending package; to,
*Endless pork barrel projects, from “Highways to Nowhere” to an $800,000 bathroom on Mt. McKinley; to,
*The unaffordable ObamaCare boondoggle that will add trillions to the national debt; to,
*The endless entitlement spending leaving us with tens of trillions of dollars in unfunded liabilities.
But even with the current make up of Congress – with Republicans in charge of the House – repeal of all this disastrous legislation just isn’t possible because Barack Obama still wields the veto pen.
But there is another solution.
You see, the House of Representatives insists all spending bills originate within its chambers. That gives Majority Leader John Boehner a lot of power — and gives us the opportunity to make a real difference
Grassroots conservatives proved they are a force to be reckoned with this past year as they turned out to send big spending Obama cheerleaders packing and elect limited government conservatives.
But to keep those newly elected politicians from caving in to the “politics as usual” crowd, you and I must make it clear they can’t ignore us now that they’re in power.
You need to keep an eye on your elected representative and let them know you’re watching and you’re ready to hold them accountable to their campaign promises.
