In November, Obama’s political theology took a shellacking at the polls, but he marches on, undeterred, in his quest to implement an agenda that is anathema to the great majority of Americans and devastating to our one and only democratic ally in the Middle East.
The Illinois Conservative Examiner decided to reprint this article, with minor additions and edits, due to recent unrest in the Middle East and the current House Homeland Security hearing on radical Muslims in America. Americans need to be reminded who our true friends are.
Have you noticed there has been little or no news in the mainstream media on Israel since the November elections? Before November 2, Barack Obama had a lot to say about the Jews, the Palestinians, their neighbors and the religious hatreds that predominate in the region. Most of Obama’s rhetoric was anti-Israel. Ironic, since American Jews supported him soundly in 2008. Anyone with a sense of history has to believe Obama’s silence is the result of the Republican takeover of the US House of Representatives.
Before the disastrous Mid-terms (to Obama and the Democrats), plenty was afoot.
In late October, a senior Palestinian Authority official as well as security sources in Egypt and Jordan, said they heard from the Obama administration an outline of a series of moves to pressure Israel after the Nov. 2 vote.
Among the moves would be holding back support for Israel when it comes to future resolutions condemning the Jewish state at the United Nations. Also the U.S. would tacitly back a Palestinian threat to unilaterally
declare a Palestinian state at the U.N. Security Council if Israelly prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu failed to reach an agreement with the PA.
The sources said the Obama administration had already dropped U.S. opposition to PA President Mahmoud Abbas forging a unity deal with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Historically, the U.S. has publicly taken a policy of isolating Hamas, a terrorist organization, although there have been recent signs of U.S. rapprochement toward the Islamic group. Netanyahu has argued Hamas stood in the way of a pan-Palestinian future settlemnt.
The PA and Middle East sources said that Obama would join a chorus of European Union officials in demanding that Israel evacuate almost the entire West Bank and eastern sections of Jerusalem in a future deal with the Palestinians.
Netanyahu wants to keep what are known as the main settlement blocks – Ariel, Gush Etzion and Maale Adumin, a position mostly supported by the U.S. government. Before November 2, there were signs the Obama administration would call for Israel to evacuate the large town of Ariel in any settlement with the Palestinians.
How pro-Moslem is the administration?
In July, Obama directed the new administrator of NASA, retired Marine Major Gen. Charles Bolden, to “find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage more dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science . . . and math and engineering.”
Now, when one thinks of the “contributions” to our space program that are possible from Muslim nations, the one that comes to mind is the literal kind — recycled petrodollars — since their “contributions to science, math and engineering” for several hundreds of years have been, to put it charitably, underwhelming.
Where was all this leading? The Illinois Conservative Examiner believes Barack Obama and his administration were preparing to throw Israel “under-the-bus” until the Midterms brought them back to reality. But, are they even now working behind the scenes to reduce Israel’s standing in the world?
A comprehensive poll released in early October showed a growing number of Americans support Israel over the Palestinians and would vote for political candidates based on their stance regarding the Jewish state.
The survey, commissioned by the Emergency Committee for Israel, showed 53 percent of Americans are more likely to vote for a candidate they perceive as being “pro-Israel.” Fifty four percent said that even if they agreed with a candidate on important domestic issues, they could not vote for him or her if the candidate were “anti-Israel.”
Some 93.5 percent of Americans believe that the U.S. should be concerned about Israel’s security. Also, 42.7 percent of American said they believe Obama’s Middle East policies harm Israel’s security, and only 29.6 percent believe that Obama is improving Israel’s security situation.
Unfortunately, the election results were mixed: In Illinois, Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-10., had been taking heat for her record on Israel from Republican opponent Joel Pollak, who made Schakowsky’s record on Israel a pillar of his campaign. Both candidates are Jewish. The conservative Pollak lost.
In Florida, Democratic Rep. Ron Klein lost to Tea party Republican Allen West. Although Klein is Jewish and West is African-American, West ran on Klein’s lack of support of Israel to great effect.
Overall, though, the paddling Obama and the Democrats took in November seems to have slowed the Obama Administration’s efforts to lessen America’s support of Israel. But did it? Especially, when you consider the administration’s and the Progressive’s reaction to any criticism of Moslems in Congress.
Last week, The New York Times took a verbal punch at Rep. Pete King for his planned hearings on the radicalization of Muslims living in the United States. And the fiesty Republican punched back at the Liberals’ Bible.
“The New York Times is just basically being a mouthpiece for political correctness,” said King, incoming chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. “These are very legitimate hearings.”
King has criticized the Obama administration strongly for its effort to close the Guantanamo Bay detention facility for suspected terrorists and try them in civilian courts.
“I’m certainly not going to take any political advice or direction from The New York Times,” he said. “I have more contempt for The New York Times than anything or anyone I can think of. People follow what I say. I’m outspoken, but I can back up everything I say. I am what I am, and people seem to like it. I’m at peace with myself.”
Congressman King is again under attack by the Left and the New York Times for chairing the HMS hearing.
Is Israel out friend and ally? Unlike other nations in the region, there were no videos of Israelis dancing in the streets immediately after the Islamic terror attacks on 911. We were “treated” to dozens held in virtually every other country surrounding her.
When you consider Obama’s quiet support for the Ground Zero mosque, his bowing to the Kind of Saudi Arabia and his proclamation that “America is not a Christian Country” we feel the Republican victories in November may have been a “God-Send” for Israel.
