Our state’s jobless should not have to compete with illegal aliens for jobs, particularly during a recession. By mandating workers verification, Illinois would force employers to use the federal E-Verify system to check whether new hires are eligible to work in the U.S. Mandatory E-Verify will ensure that jobs are reserved for citizens and legal residents.
By James Kennedy, Contributing Writer:
The E-Verify system is a government database that can be used to validate the eligibility of all workers to work legally in the U.S. In other words, it screens out illegal aliens. With a 99.7% overall effectiveness rate, this tool is the best option currently available to reduce the presence of illegal aliens in U.S. based jobs, and put unemployed Americans back to work.
Where is the Obama Administration doing about this? Better yet, where are the state Republicans, why aren’t they advocating its use?
A number of states have passed laws mandating E-Verify for every new employee. Unfortunately, Illinois is not one of them. In fact, many in the Illinois Legislature have not voiced their support for making E-Verify mandatory.
If you are not familiar with E-Verify, you should know that 96.9 percent of those checked through E-Verify are automatically authorized for employment within seconds and an overall accuracy rate of 99.7%. The program
has an extraordinarily high satisfaction rate. And contrary to what critics claim, E-Verify is not a burden on employers and cannot be used selectively for verification based on foreign appearance.
The unemployed of our state cannot wait for Congress or the federal government to mandate E-Verify; there simply isn’t time. Our state’s families are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet and should not have to compete against illegal aliens. Contact your Illinois Legislature Representative and Senator, urging them to crack down on illegal immigration, by mandating E-Verify state-wide.
