Israel Seizes Ship with Iranian Weapons Bound for Egypt

By Editor-in-Chief on March 24, 2011

No mater how much Barack Obama kowtows to the Islamic fundamentalists, they will never waver from their agenda: replace Christianity with Mohammedanism, subvert Western civilization, and destroy Israel.

On March 15, Victoria, a Liberian-flagged ship believed to be carrying arms to Hamas-controlled Gaza was intercepted by the Israeli navy 125 miles of the coast of Israel at midday. The ship had sailed from Port Mersin, Turkey bound for Alexandria, Egypt.

“According to assessments,” the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement. “The various weaponry on-board the vessel was intended for the use of terror organizations operating in the Gaza Strip.”

“The weaponry originated in Iran, which is trying to arm the Gaza strip,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

From an initial investigation, strategic weapons were found on-board the “Victoria” including many 60 and 120 mm mortar shells, and C-704 anti-ship missiles, the IDF said. The C-704 shore-to-sea missiles had a range of 21 miles and its likely use along the Gaza Strip endangers not only infrastructure near the Gaza sea, but Israeli shore cities in close proximity such as Ashkelon.

“The IDF will continue its intelligence and operational activities in order to maintain Israel’s security interests and prevent arms smuggling that will fuel the terror infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon,” the IDF  added.

The IDF was performing routine assistance in order to maintain its security and prevent arms smuggling when it seized the ship.

The crew aboard the Victoria did not resist when the Israel Navy towed the vessel towards the Israeli shore.

“The operation was carried out at sea in accordance with all international rules,” said Netanyahu.

Gaza’s terror organizations indiscriminately attack Israeli civilians with thousands of mortars and rockets. Many of the weapons were produced in Iran.

“The attempt to smuggle weaponry to Gaza shows that radical elements are continuing in their attempts to attack Israel and undermine regional stability,” said Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

So much for Barack Obama’s open-arms policy to the Islamic world.

Arms Ships Intercepted by Israeli Navy

15 March 2011: The Liberian-flagged Victoria is intercepted 200 miles west of Israel’s coast, sailing from Turkey with a listed destination as Alexandria, Egypt. The vessel is found to be carrying an assortment of weaponry most likely destined for Gaza-based terror groups.

22 January 2011: An Iranian Alvand-class warship and an accompanying Kharg-class supply vessel pass through the Suez Canal on their way to naval exercises with Syria.

24 March 2010: The U.S. Air Force conducts air-strikes against an arms-smuggling convoy carrying weapons destined for Gaza near the Egyptian city of Port Sudan. The weapons were to be funneled through Sudan and the Sinai and delivered through tunnels to Gaza recipients.

4 November 2009: The German-owned, Cypriot-operated Francop is intercepted by the Israeli Navy off the coast of Cyprus. Found to be carrying over 300 tons of weapons, it had set out 10-days prior from Bandar Abbas in Iran.

October 2009: The Hansa India, sailing from Iran under a Germany flag, was set to disembark in Egypt. German authorities warned that the vessel did not unload and instead sailed to Malta where it was seized. It was carrying bullets and industrial material for weapons production intended for Syria.

4 January 2002: 50 tons of weapons destined for the Palestinian Authority aboard the Karine-A. The ship was purchased by the Palestinian Authority, loaded with weapons by Iran and Hezbollah, manned by Palestinian Authority personnel, with the aim of transferring the weapons it carried to the Palestinian Naval Police near the Gaza beaches.

6 May 2001: Over $10 million worth of weaponry is discovered aboard the Santorini, with an investigation showing it was destined for Ahmad Jibril’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command. Departing from Libya, carefully sealed and waterproofed barrels of weapons and ammunition were to be unloaded off the Gaza coast at pre-arranged locations.
