This past weekend we took an auto trip to our State capitol in Springfield,Illinois. This was an awe-inspiring venture for the following reasons:
We learned thatLincolnwas not the beloved man he is today. Newspapers scorned him in cartoons and print. Some in his cabinet were against him. He went against the popular vote with the Emancipation Proclamation. In both the North and South, there were citizens of both races against this endeavor. Lincolnknowing he was correct pushed ahead. Families were torn apart and many men died. Soldiers consisted of both white and black men, fighting side by side. President Lincoln won more than the war. He won a nations respect. You are probably saying to yourself “we know all this we learned it in school”.
Yes, but in this crazy world of White against Black, Asian, Latino, poor against rich and the have-nots against the haves. Don’t let anyone tell you these things are correct, they are not. Learn and remember President Lincoln came from the poorest of the poor. He was amazed one day when he earned a whole dollar – when that was a months pay. He taught himself to read and he went on to become not only a lawyer but the President of these wonderfulUnited States of America.
I guess what I want to say is, never listen to anyone who says you can’t strive for greatness or have the high ideals of aLincoln. You tell them you can and shall have all you want and you’ll get it asLincolndid by working hard to achieve it – not with handouts. Many of us may not become wealthy or highly educated but we must have a sense of pride in all we achieve.
Do not to listen to those who want to give us handouts, stymie our education, and keep us under their thumb. Keep your dreams alive. Be all you want and don’t ever stop working toward your goals. The world is constantly growing as isAmerica. Go toSpringfieldand renew your pride. You are an American. Color or religion is NOT the issue here. American pride is!
When you finish re-learning about this Great Man, go on to the War Memorials of Korea,Vietnamand World War II. Think about how all the names you shall read are men and woman who had families like you and I. Who gave there all so we can have this Greatest of all nations. Fight with all we possess to keep it strong and survive over anyone or any country that wants to change us. We are not Europe, or Asia, orLatin Americaor the Arab states. We are AMERICANS and that’s’ how we want to stay. We have ancestors from other countries and cultures but we are first proud to be Americans all the time not just some of the time.
Fly your Flag everyday.
Take the time to learn about the Men and Women we send to our state capitols to do a job with our best interest in mind not the political agenda they think is best for us. Every citizen ofIllinoisand theUnited Statesshould visit the Abraham Lincoln library. It was truly an awakening experience.
