Richard “Tricky Dick” Durbin (D), the senior senator from Illinois and Majority Whip of the U.S. Senate is viewed by many as something of a “waterboy” who carries out Barack Obama’s socialist doctrine in Washington. His extreme positions over the years have been an embarrassment to voters in Illinois.
What do you think his response is when asked if Americans are better off now then they were four years ago? He’d sputter and dodge, and maybe whine and then blame the Republicans for ruining America– always the “out” used by the Left.
What else can a Democrat do when presented with a record of nine (9) percent unemployment, stagnant growth and ruinous deficits? When they – with Harry Reid and Durbin leading the charge rammed through ObamaCare and the failed Stimulus.
A Case in point:
Last week, Durbin indignitly spoke out against the Bank of America’s proposed $5 a month debit card fee, calling it a hidden fee even when it isn’t hidden. He called on Americans to take their deposits elsewhere and “punish” the bank
No likes what lending institutions around the nation – the same goes for the airlines – are doing to show a profit. But when you consider that many of the problems business is facing is due to excessive legislation and regulation rammed though by a Democratic majority in the Senate and House during the last two years on the Bush administration and the last three years of the Barack Obama administration.
Two presidents and two Congresses have sunk billions of taxpayer dollars (our dollars) to save failing banks (and the airlines and automakers, etc.). And not because they deserved it. No, they did it because banks are necessary. Without banks, there is no lending, without lending there is no business, and without business, there are no jobs and no taxes coming into the Treasury.
So what prompted “Tricky Dick” to attacks Bank of America?
We don’t know, except, maybe, to distract the public from the fact that Democrats in the Senate voted against Obama’s Job bill?
Other Durbin embarrassments include:
On June 15, 2005, in a fit of hysteria and historical illiteracy, not to mention irrational moral equivalency, Durbin compared the U.S. military’s treatment of a suspected al Qaeda terrorist at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay with the regimes of Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and Pol Pot, three of history’s most heinous dictators, whose regimes killed millions. He dared to compare the American military to Nazis, Stalinist thugs, and the genocidal Pol Pot?
Durbin then added to the insults when he likened the treatment of terror suspects at the prison inGuantanamo Bay,Cuba, and the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq to President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s decision to authorize the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II.
“It took us almost 40 years for us to acknowledge that we were wrong, to admit that these people should never have been imprisoned. It was a shameful period in American history,” Mr. Durbin said. “I believe the torture techniques that have been used at Abu Ghraib andGuantanamoand other places fall into that same category.”
Many insiders believed Durbin wanted to embarrass the Bush administration into changing its detention policy; all he wound up accomplishing was embarrassing the voters in Illinois who sent him to the Senate for that ill-educated harangue.
In June of 2011, Durbin proposed legislation, which would make it difficult for over-budgeted states and cities to lease public transportation assets to private investors. The proposal would require the federal government to be reimbursed for its investment in a piece of infrastructure before any deal could be made. Additionally, it promotes transparency, requiring the disclosure of any depreciation or other tax benefits that would accrue to private investors and estimates of savings from the reduction of jobs, pay, or benefits.
The bill was largely in response to the discussions of selling MidwayAirportand Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, its most profitable route.
This at a time when Illinois is so deep in debt it cannot pay its bills.

Dick Durbin is an embarrassment to the people ofIllinois and the nation. He comes up for reelection in 2014. That’s too long for the people of Illinois to wait. How about a recall petition or two?
