Guns and the Supreme Court

By Editor-in-Chief on October 24, 2011

Why is the 2012 election so important? The are a myriad of reasons to have concern for the future of our country. The poor economy and six million unemployed, excessive taxation and regulations designed to change the face of America. Then there’s the social engineers that permeate the Democratic Party, leftists like George Soros and left-wing groups like Common Cause, and the Hollywood elites that honestly believe they know what’s best for us and if we refuse to accept that reasoning, they want to legislate us into compliance.

Then, there’s the U.S. Supreme Court and the destruction of our Second Amendment rights by a court dominated by Barack Obama nominees. What? It’s a possibility. Obama has already placed two leftists, Kagan and Sotomayor, on the bench. If he is re-elected he may have the chance to tilt the court so far to the left the country may never recover. And one of the first things that court will do is gut the Second Amendment.

Since the very first days of this president’s administration, the drug-fueled cartel violence in Mexico has provided a stalking horse for the gun control agenda. Early on, both Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder cited Mexican violence as a reason to renew the Bill Clinton gun ban of 1994.

After those trial balloons were shot down, the ball was passed to Mexican President Felipe Calderon, who repeatedly has blamed American gun rights for Mexican violence. And more recently, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives cited cartel mayhem as justification for an attempt to mandate the reporting of all multiple long gun sales  – not pistols, rifles – inborder states. This regulation would force dealers to report all purchases of more than one long gun if the guns are magazine-fed and larger than .22 caliber — effectively creating a registry.

Gun-grabbers around the globe believe they will achieve success if Obama gets a second term in the Oval Office. Obama and the Democratic Party want to disarmAmerica.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
                                                                                              – Thomas Jefferson

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently announced the Obama Administration will be working hand-in-glove with the UN to pass a new “Small Arms Treaty.”

Disguised as an “International Arms Control Treaty” to fight against “terrorism,” “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates,” the UN’s Small Arms Treaty is in fact a massive, GLOBAL gun control scheme.

Recently, the United Nations took the next step in negotiating an international arms trade treaty that has the full support of the Obama administration. The goal of this treaty is to impose “common international standards for the import, export and transfer of conventional arms” and ammunition, ostensibly because “too many arms still end up in the wrong hands.”

This high-sounding rhetoric demands further examination, especially since the UN group behind this meeting is called the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs.

Since the mid-1990s, the United Nations has proclaimed that global civilian disarmament will ensure worldwide peace and prosperity. But to comprehend their attitude towards civilian gun ownership, know that the United Nations believes you have no civil right of self-defense:

Self-defence is a widely recognized, yet legally proscribed, exception to the universal duty to respect the right to life of others. Self-defence is a basis for exemption from criminal responsibility that can be raised by any State agent or non-State actor. Self-defence is sometimes designated as a “right.”

Self-defence is more properly characterized as a means of protecting the right to life and, as such, a basis for avoiding responsibility for violating the rights of another. In other words, if you kill an attacker, you violate their human rights. For now, the UN will let it pass if you can prove you were protecting your life. But this remains a “basis for exemption from criminal responsibility,” which implies that you owe a debt to society. Also, government can revoke this privilege of self-defense at any time.

Obama, Clinton and the UN will succeed in outlawing and confiscating America’s weapons if he is able to nominate and place two or three more Supreme Court justices. All Obama need to do is win a second term.

If we want to retain our Second Amendment rights, we need to ensure Barack Obama is a one-term president.
