This is the eight installment in our Conservative Grassroots Movement in Illinois. Ms. Sweeney is well thought of and an extremely qualified person to represent the people of the 55th District. ICE News wishes her success in her efforts to bring true representation to the people of this state.
Park Ridge resident and community volunteer Susan Sweeney announced her campaign for the Republican nomination for State
Representative in the new 55th District. Sweeney, who grew up in Park Ridge, said she is ready to bring a lifetime of common-sense experience to a government that is bankrupt and broken.
“For decades, politicians in both parties have overspent and overtaxed and now families are paying the consequences. Rising taxes, reckless spending and skyrocketing debt are burdens every family now faces and it is impacting everyone’s daily life,” said Sweeney, “We need a new direction for Illinois that encourages innovation, fosters job creation and demands accountability and transparency.”
Sweeney grew up in Park Ridge, attended St. Paul Catholic Grade School, graduated Maine South High School and the University of Illinois. A former business professional for a fortune 500 company, she left her position to raise her three children and become more active in the community. Susan is involved in activities in support of her children including Park Ridge School District 64, Maine South High School and park district programs. Susan has also volunteered her time as an assistant baseball and basketball coach for her children’s sports teams along with being a “room mother.”
To help improve educational opportunities for all children, Sweeney initiated an effort to bring support for special needs children at St. Paul of the Cross School. She remains active in the education community by serving as a substitute teacher for Park Ridge District 64.
“I want to bring the common-sense experiences we all share of balancing a budget, paying the bills and preparing for the future to a state that has clearly forgotten those fundamentals,” continued Sweeney. She outlined key policy goals, including:
- Repeal of the Democrat income and corporate tax increases;
- Eliminate wasteful state spending and develop a real balanced budget;
- Reform of the state’s pension system and addressing its $85 billion unfunded liability;
- Address the fraud and waste in the state’s Medicaid program.Susan Sweeney will be running as a write-in candidate for the Republican nomination for State Representative of the 55th District.
