News and Views in 60 Seconds

By Editor-in-Chief on July 21, 2012

News and Views is a twice-weekly column containing an assortment of interesting state, national and international political and financial information, opinions, candidate reviews, scheduled events, Tea Party information, meetings and press releases that we hope will interest you. We will now offer a special section segregating media bias and Hollywood bias to give the reader a better idea of how prevalent it is.

State and National

Media Waste No Time Trying to Link Colorado Killer to Tea Party: It took all of about 15 seconds for ABC to link the Colorado killer, James Holmes, to a Jim Holmes who had a page on a Tea Party website. The only information on the Tea Party Patriots page was that a Jim Holmes of Aurora had joined in January of 2011. The James Holmes being held in the shooting enrolled in the University of Colorado in June 2011 and moved into his apartment in May 2011, according to police.

The man with the Tea Party page is actually James Michael Holmes, who is in his 50s and Hispanic. The suspect is 24. Tea Party Jim Holmes said he has now disconnected his phone because as soon as ABC identified him with the suspect, he began getting calls from liberals threatening him. By the way, as of this writing, Breitbart.com has a story that, based on information corroborated by former addresses, age, driving record and Social Security issuance, it appears the shooter (James Holmes) is a registered Democratic Party voter.

US Border Patrol Incident Report Indicates Brian Terry’s Killers Were Let Go

Reprinted from:  NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BORDER PATROL OFFICERS.  website:http://www.nafbpo.org

One week ago, the Department of Justice unsealed the indictments against five men for the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who was killed on December 15, 2010. Guns from Operation Fast and Furious were left at the scene. Four of the men indicted are on the run and believed to be in Mexico. Those men are Jesus Rosario Favela-Astorga, Ivan Soto-Barraza, Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes and Lionel Portillo-Meza. Manuel Osario Arellanes was shot on the night Terry was killed and has remained in custody since. His brother, Rito Osorio-Arellanes is also in custody and has been charged not for Terry’s murder, but for other related crimes.

Shooting incident report 11 TCANGL 121570000077, indicates authorities had four suspects in custody at the time of Terry’s murder and let them go. Multiple updates in the report show “four men in custody,” one of the men in custody being wounded, with another at large but “spotted.” Five men in total. It has been confirmed multiple times that there were five bandits in Peck Canyon, Ariz. the night Terry was killed.

The dirt emanating from Fast & Furious keeps coming.

Congressman Joe Walsh to Skip Republican Convention
Chooses constituents over politics – Calls on opponent to do the same

Congressman Joe Walsh announced he will not attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Florida. Walsh will instead host a series of town halls and listening events in the district to discuss the impact of Washington’s policies on the lives of his constituents. In addition, Walsh is asking his opponent, Tammy Duckworth, to join him in skipping the party conventions and instead hold joint town halls and listening events to address voters’ questions and concerns in the 8th district.

Congressman Walsh stated, “Not as a candidate or as a Congressman have I ever been one of the political class. I came to Washington to serve the people of my district and reclaim our country from the growth of government. Rather than mingle with Party insiders in Tampa, I will be in the 8th district to continue to serve as an independent voice for for the people.”

Walsh continued, “My opponent, Tammy Duckworth, has always been the preferred pick of Democrat Party insiders from Blagojevich to Emmanuel. Despite that, I hope she will join me in skipping the conventions to tour the district to discuss the real issues that matter to real people. The conventions are nothing more than an excuse to mingle with insiders and party with the elite. This district does not want just another insider to represent them; they want an independent who will fight for real solutions to the issues.”

Tim Wolfe for Congress: Town Hall Meetings: Town hall meetings provide the opportunity for residents of the new 9th District to meet and ask questions of a Constitutional Conservative candidate who is the alternative to incumbent Jan Schakowsky (D-9th). Wolfe invites voters to bring their questions regarding his positions on the Federal budget, job creation, alternatives to the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare), the Middle East, Social Security, Medicare, the U.S. energy policy, and any other issues facing the 9th Congressional District and the United States.

This May Be Worth Reading: Obama’s devastating 2nd-term plans

New book uncovers shocking blueprint on economy, military, healthcare, immigration

A soon-to-be-released, game-changing election book will reveal the blueprint for a second Barack Obama presidential term. Slated for release Aug. 7 by WND Books, “Fool Me Twice: Obama’s Shocking Plans for the Next Four Years Exposed” uncovers the template for Obama’s next four years – the actual, extensive plans created by Obama’s own top advisers and progressive strategists.

The explosive book unveils all the main areas of Obama’s second-term domestic policy onslaught – jobs, wages, health care, immigration “overhaul,” electoral “reform,” national energy policy, Pentagon plans and much more.

“Just as ‘Unfit for Command’ provided the margin of defeat for John Kerry in 2004, ‘Fool Me Twice’ will ensure Obama serves only one term,” said WND Books publisher Joseph Farah.

“Fool Me Twice” is written by New York Times bestselling author, journalist and radio host Aaron Klein, together with New York Times bestselling author and researcher Brenda J. Elliott.

Just as in 2008, when Obama concealed his true presidential plans behind the rhetoric of ending partisan differences and cutting the federal deficit, his 2012 re-election theme of creating jobs conceals far more than it reveals about his true agenda for a second term.

Most conservative books about Obama focus on his radical background and what he has done until now. A small number of ambitious projects attempt to show what America may look like after four more years of Obama based on generalities and what the president has already done.

While many are expressing general concerns over Obama’s future ambitions, “Fool Me Twice” lays bare the devastating details and consequences of a second Obama term as president.

The book is based on exhaustive research into Obama’s upcoming detailed presidential plans and policies, as well as the specific second-term recommendations of major “progressive” groups behind Obama and the Democratic leadership – the organizations that help craft legislation and set the political and rhetorical agenda for the president and his allies.

Republican Rep: Judy Biggert (IL-13) – Pushing Ahead on VAWA:  As you know, the House and Senate have passed different versions of legislation to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, the nation’s primary domestic violence law. Unfortunately, little progress has been made in resolving differences between the chambers.  This week, I sent a letter to House Speaker Boehner and Majority Leader Cantor urging them to work diligently with the Senate to craft a bicameral compromise. I also asked House leaders to accept Senate-endorsed provisions that reflect the input of volunteers and counselors on the front lines – including protections for college students, LGBT individuals, Native Americans, and immigrants. We cannot allow the reauthorization of VAWA to become another victim of election-year gridlock. Read more here.

International News

Will China Go to War for Offshore Oil?
A Chinese warship running aground on a reef 124 miles from the Philippines a week ago was the latest sign of growing tension in the oil-rich South China Sea, a region disputed by six countries. While China’s strategy of divide and conquer appears to be working for now, LIGNET believes this territorial dispute will continue and that the risk of a military conflict will grow.

Syria: More UN Inaction Likely as Fighting Spreads to Capital
New Western efforts this week to pass measures against the Syrian regime in the UN Security Council are likely to be blocked again by Russia and China, especially by Moscow, which recently has been outspoken in condemning Western efforts to impose a solution to end the Syrian violence. Believing that outside intervention is not on the horizon, the Syrian rebels this week brought their fight to Damascus, the Syrian capital, including a deadly suicide attack today that killed two senior Syrian defense officials.

China’s Stranglehold on “Rare Earths” Could Boost U.S. Mining
A vote by the U.S. House of Representatives last week to ease restrictions on mining of “rare earth” minerals could help alleviate their soaring prices and supply shortages due to China’s restrictive export policies. Given the strategic importance of rare earths to the U.S. economy, pressure is building to unleash mining companies like Molycorp (NYSE: MCP) to bolster the supply of this critical national resource.

Yemen: Al-Qaeda Re-Surges With Deadly Attacks in Capital
Terrorist attacks have spread to Yemen’s capital of Sanaa as government troops backed by the United States prove ineffective in stopping the al-Qaeda franchise there. Dozens have been killed and hundreds wounded in a series of bombings by militants that have targeted government and military officials and have hampered the country’s return to stability.

Media & Hollywood Bias

All Three Networks Fawn Over Obama Kiss: All three networks on Tuesday absolutely gushed over Barack Obama kissing his wife at a men’s Olympic basketball game on Monday night. CBS This Morning guest anchor Norah O’Donnell thrilled, “Whoo-hoo-hoo! Hot in here!” Good Morning America news reader Josh Elliott cheered on the President’s ability to kiss his wife in public: “[Obama] is showing the world he’s got a little game off the court as well!” Today’s Natalie Morales recounted how the President, after being spotted by the Kiss Cam, at first refused to kiss Mrs. Obama. Morales hyped, “…They got a second chance when the “Kiss Cam” found them again. So this time he delivered, planting a very presidential pucker on the First Lady and the crowd went wild.” Weatherman Al Roker joked, “Mr. President, get a stadium.”

Editor’s Note: What the networks didn’t say was Obama’s staff, realizing they had missed a huge photo-op,  brought the media back into the stands after they had left and then  convinced the stadium officials to re-stage the entire “kiss” for the great “impromptu” footage. And of course the media went along with it.

NY Times Columnist: ‘Romney is Not a Person – Just a Robot,’ ‘Does Not Have a Soul’: “This man does not have a soul. If you opened up, you know, his chest, there’s probably a gold ticking watch in there and not even a heart. This is not a person. This is just a robot who will do whatever it takes, whatever he’s told to do, to make it to the White House.”

So said New York Times columnist Charles Blow about Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on MSNBC’s The Last Word Tuesday.  Editor’s Note: You thought he was talking about Barack Obama, didn’t you? Naw, this is our “impartial” media talking

CBS Showcases Colbert Comparing Romney’s Leadership of Bain to Cannibalistic Donner Party: Left-wing comedian Stephen Colbert smeared Mitt Romney on his Comedy Central program on Monday, hinting that Bain Capital under his helm acted like a group of 19th century settlers that resorted to cannibalism. After noting how President Obama forwarded a claim by The Washington Post that Bain owned companies that were “pioneers” of outsourcing, Colbert snarked, “Who cares? Pioneers opened up the West. Bain was just like the Donner Party. They ate the weak.” The following day, Tuesday’s CBS This Morning publicized the liberal celebrity’s attack during their regular “Eye Opener” segment just after the top of the 7 am Eastern hour.

MBC’s Lauer Invites Elton John to Bash Reagan, Cheer Clinton: In an interview with singer Elton John on Tuesday’s NBC Today that focused on the performer’s AIDS awareness activism, co-host Matt Lauer teed him up to rate recent presidents on combating the disease: “Elton champions those he feels made a positive impact on the AIDS epidemic, but he also takes to task those he believes caused harm. And he doesn’t hold back.” Â Lauer declared: “Let’s play a little game of political word association. Give me the brief answer to each of the names that I’m going to throw out, just your first reaction. Ronald Reagan.” John sniffed: “Overrated.” Lauer continued: “Bill Clinton.” John gushed: “Fantastic. Made some big mistakes but, God, he’s a fantastic man.”

When Lauer brought up George W. Bush, John initially had praise: “I have a kind of soft spot for him in a way because he was very – what he did for AIDS was fantastic.” Then John quickly added: “But I’m glad he’s not in power anymore.”

Moments later, Lauer turned to President Obama announcing his support for gay marriage and wondered: “As a gay man, how did you feel about it?” John proclaimed: “I think it’s wonderful that he did that. You know, he’s done a lot, he got rid of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. And you know, you just can’t do things overnight and I really appreciate what he’s done.”

When Lauer brought up the possibility of Obama doing it for political reasons and to boost campaign fundraising, John dismissed such concerns: “Well, it’s the right thing to do. It’s ratification of our rights.”

Wrapping up the segment, Lauer concluded: “Elton John is incredibly outspoken.”

Surprised? ABC, NBC & CBS Wait Five Days to Report Obama’s ‘You Didn’t Build That’ Attack on Business: When Barack Obama insulted job creators everywhere, last Friday, by charging: “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that, somebody else made that happen,” the Big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) networks didn’t pounce on the politically damaging remark. It took five full days and Romney making it the centerpiece of his speech on Tuesday before the first network mention – by Peter Alexander on Tuesday evening’s NBC Nightly News. In fact, Obama’s soundbite was ran exactly once, in the aforementioned Alexander report. Neither CBS or ABC ran Obama’s actual quote. However, when former New Hampshire Governor John Sununu, on Tuesday, said he wished Obama “would learn how to be an American” NBC jumped to report the story on the very same day on that evening’s Nightly News. CBS got to the Sununu remark on Wednesday’s This Morning.

NBC Panelists: ‘Great Representative’ Anthony Weiner Deserves ‘Second Chance’: During a panel discussion on Tuesday’s NBC Today, advertising executive Donny Deutsch predicted a political comeback for disgraced ex-Congressman Anthony Weiner: “…he’s a good politician, I think he will get a second chance.” The network’s chief medical editor Nancy Snyderman gushed: “He’s cuckoo smart, he’s a great representative, and no one understands health care and I think the problems better than he.”
