This country’s media is overrun by liberals. They dominate the networks and rule the roost at most large newspapers. Their beliefs hold sway in the majority of the opinion and analysis columns spewed forth each day for public consumption. And even when one of them forgets himself and criticizes a left-leaning Democrat, he/she can never go whole-hog and just stick to pounding that poor, poor Democrat. Oh, no, within that opinion, liberals must devote a good portion – usually half the inches – to pound away at a conservative or a Republican. They just can’t help themselves.
Our Opinion
A prime example appeared in an Illinois daily newspaper’s op/ed page last Monday, when Ruben Navarrette, writing for the Washington Post Writers Group, labeled Senate leader Harry “Dirty Harry” Reid a Racist.
Navarrette wrote “ … the Senate majority leader’s fixation on race and racism is not good for Reid, Democrats or the country. But too many times, the senior senator from Nevada has shown an eagerness to advance his own agenda by dividing Americans along racial lines. It’s a disgusting habit.”
Navarrette went on to list several examples:
Last week in a rant against the rich and trying to entice minorities to vote Democrat, he said. “If this flood of outside money continues,” Reid warned on the Senate floor, “the day after the election, 17 angry old white men will wake up and realize they just bought the country.”
In 2009, during the health care debate (Obamacare), he accused the GOP of being on the wrong side – “just as they were ‘when this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery.’” Navarrette did point out that it was Southern Democrats who were on the wrong side of the slavery question and for segregation after the Civil war, and not Republicans.
In 2006, after the Republican-controlled Senate passed an amendment to an immigration bill that declared English the national language of the United States, Reid called the amendment “racist” and “directed basically to people who speak Spanish.”
Apparently, Harry Reid chose to ignore the millions of other immigrants who speak languages other than Spanish such as Italian, German, Chinese, Arabic, Polish, Ukrainian, Dutch and Japanese, to name a few.
Getting back to Mr. Navarrette and liberals in general.
The lead-in to his op-ed piece described Reid as “mischievous” and then devoted the entire first half, saying, “It doesn’t help that the GOP has dirty hands” that Richard Nixon benefited from a “Southern Strategy” designed to frighten whites and that more recently Republicans used anti-Hispanic sentiment and anxiety over immigrants to scare … white voters in states such as Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada and Utah.
Then and only then did he address the question of Harry Reid’s racism.
The double standard liberals adhere to is endless. Democrats in general and President Barack Obama in particular — aided by a sycophantic and fawning news media — have been ranting about Mitt Romney’s offshore accounts, portraying him as evil and greedy because he chose to “hide” his money in “secretive” Cayman Island banks.
ICE News says Romney should release more tax papers when and only when Barack Obama releases his passport info from his early days and when Obama releases his college grades. Remember, Obama promised transparency. Something his administration has shown little of.
They simply cannot help themselves.
