Now that Mitt Romney is the GOP nominee, ICE News will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For our friends who are hesitating on that score, we’d just ask you to keep four things in mind: Justice Scalia just turned 78, Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year, Justice Breyer will be 76 in August, and Justice Ginsburg recently turned 81. Then think about Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan … yes, that should scare the complacency out of you.
We wish them all (Kennedy, Scalia, Breyer and Ginsburg) well, of course, but the brute fact is that whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court — in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for Romney or Barack Obama. If you’re still hesitating, You’d better take another look at the condition our country is in.
Then there’s George Soros to consider. Many Washington insiders believe billionaire George Soros is the real force behind Barack Obama’s presidency. He does not like our judicial system and wants to change it and he would like nothing better than the opportunity to change the face of the U.S. Supreme Court for the next generation and beyond. Don’t doubt for an instant that in a Obama second term, Soros will decide who will fill a vacancy on the high court.
And then there’s all the lower courts to consider.
A report by John Gizzi of the Capital Research Center, released last October described a move by very wealthy interests across the United States to reshape the judiciary in the mold of progressives who believe the Constitution should be interpreted through the filter of personal desires. The primary force behind the move? George Soros, who personally provides the money for a number of liberal advocacy organizations such as MoveOn.org.
“George Soros plans to influence the selection of state Supreme Court justices across the country. He’s funding massive efforts to end judicial elections in state after state, pushing instead for ‘merit based appointments’ that favor the political interests of the liberal lawyers who pick the judges,” said Matthew Vadum, the CRC chief who edited Gizzi’s report.
An American Justice Partnership (AJP) report said the Soros campaign is “highly-coordinated, well-funded” and is intended to “exclude conservative, rule-of-law judges from the bench.”
What has that to do with you?
State Supreme Courts had a say in redistricting after the 2010 Census. In Illinois that led to outrageous gerrymandering that is even now causing mayhem in the state.
Just getting the judges on the bench is the major part of the work, since federal judges serve lifetime appointments, and even in state courts there seldom are firings. Sitting judges win retention elections 98.9 percent of the time,” Gizzi reported. “A sample study of 10 states … found that in 4,588 retention elections in 1964-1998 only 52 judges were not retained.
We feel Mitt Romney is a good man and, compared to Barack Obama, extremely well qualified to be the next president of the United States. He isn’t Ronald Reagan, but then nobody is.
That’s why ICE News endorses and will support Mitt Romney
for President of the United States on November 6.
