Obama, EPA Could Shut Down 25% of America’s Coal Plants
Barack Obama came into office promising to bankrupt the coal industry. Through the EPA he has followed up on that promise, and coal producers are warning that the agency’s latest rule may kill off a huge swath of their industry: It imposes a standard for emissions that is all but impossible for many plants to meet. It requires coal-fired plants to release no more than 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide per megawatt hour. (more…)
New Tax on 1.3 Million Illinois Families
Illinois taxpayers are used to their hard earned tax dollars disappearing into thin air, but now there is a bill in the Senate that would allow the state to tax thin air. A Senate committee approved a 5% tax on satellite service, HB 5440, on Wednesday by a 10-4 vote. If HB 5440 passes, a new 5% tax will be imposed on the 1.3 million Illinois families with satellite television services. Instead of your family saving money by staying in, Springfield politicians will make sure you’re paying more to watch television in your own home. Apparently an invitation to the White House is only offered to those who aren’t too “political” or in other words, have fought against socialism (oh, semantics…). Seeing that Lech Walesa successfully led Poland’s revolt against Soviet communism, I guess that puts him on the blacklist. (more…)
