Long Time Republican Pol Leaves Illinois in Sadness and Disgust
Former State Senator and Republican Cook County Board President candidate Roger Keats and his wife Tina left Illinois to live in Texas. They bid farewell to their friends in a Wilmette Beacon article and with this letter last weekend, saying they are “voting with their feet and their wallets”
Something for Illinois Democrats to Think About
For far too long, conservative Democrats in Illinois – that’s everyone west or south of Cook County – have been ignored or simply dismissed by the Chicago/Springfield power brokers. Now, with their constituents looking at the 2012 election results with wonder, and toward the GOP and the Tea Party for answers, maybe these “blue-dogs” need to reconsider their unwavering support of the Democratic Party.
Can Illinois become a red state for 2012?
Another Illinois Freshman Republican Stands Tall
Rep. Robert Dold (R-10) publicly rejected his healthcare benefits as a member of Congress before the House voted to repeal healthcare reform. Dold said during a speech on the House floor on last week that he rejects the healthcare plan to which he is entitled as a member of Congress.
“We have an opportunity here, an opportunity for real reform. We want that, we need that, the American people have demanded it. From American businesses and people all from the other side that said we came and had healthcare reform, I did not take the congressional plan.”
Elect Democrats = More Taxes. It’s a No-Brainer!
Illinois Democrats passed a whopping 66% increase in state income taxes in a lame duck session. Governor Pat Quinn was so pleased he congratulated every Democrat he could find. And that was quite a few, because Illinois voters, once again, turned into voting zombies, or Boris Karloff-like mummies, on election day chanting, “Democrat … Democrat … Democrat” as they march to the polls. When will they learn?
Study Gives Illinois Poor Marks on Fairness
Recent Harris study ranks Cook County the worst local jurisdiction in country for legal fairness. Poor legal climate is driving jobs and opportunities to other states.
Thanks to the Democrats, Illinois in Trouble
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. — Thomas Jefferson
Cook County’s property tax system has become so overburdened by exemptions and layers of administration in the past decade that the Chicago-based Civic Federation believes it’s not working like it should.
Divorce: An Impossible Dream
Most of Illinois is fed up with Chicago. They are fed up with its corruption, its monetary mismanagement and its stranglehold on the state. Yes, it’s a beautiful city and offers many fine attractions. The Chicago lakefront is a remarkable sight. Of course, there are many businesses in those high-rise office buildings. Beyond that, in many ways Chicago has become an albatross on the rest of the state. Perhaps it is time Chicago and Illinois went their separate ways.
