The Illinois Policy Institute is advocating for voucher-funded education — where the state distributes money to parents for their child’s education and the parents can use the money for their child to attend a school of their choice rather than giving money directly to public school districts. Illinois Home Schooling Fight Not Over
Thousands of people flooded the Illinois capital building in Springfield on February 17 for an initial hearing for a bill that would regulate home schooling in Illinois. Democrats tabled the measure after 4,000 flooded Springfield to oppose it, according to IllinoisReview.com.
Student Borrowing on the Upswing
College students are borrowing more. Among 2008 graduates who borrowed, the average loan for bachelor’s degree recipients was more than $23,000, compared with slightly more than $17,000 in 1996.
