Illinois Unemployment Spikes as More Join Job Search
Illinois’ unemployment rate increased for a second straight month in February, spiking to 9.5 percent, the state Department of Employment Security said Thursday. That’s the highest unemployment rate seen in the state since 2011 and gives Illinois one of the highest unemployment rates in the country at a time when the national jobs picture is improving (according to Gov. How Successful has the Democratic Stimulus been? Look at Obama’s Poll numbers.
Twenty-eight months after Congress passed President Obama’s signature economic stimulus law, and nearly one year after he declared the summer of 2010 to be “Recovery Summer,” 1.9 million fewer people are employed than when Obama signed stimulus. In February 2009, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that 141.7 million people were employed. By the end of May 2011 – the last month for which data are available – that number had fallen to 139.8 million, a difference of 1.9 million. (more…)
