Just as in November 2010, we have an opportunity to clean-house, so to speak: change the occupant in the White House and move Harry Reid to a minority seat in the Senate. For a reason to do so, one has to look no further than at a report released two years ago by the Social Security Board of Trustees that says the Social Security system will pay out more in benefits than it gathers in tax receipts this year for the first time since 1983. The very next day, the Social Security Administration announced the first Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) since 2009 – a 3.6% increase for Social Security and Supplement Security Income (SSI). In this tough economy, every penny counts, so the announcement was welcome news for those living on a fixed income.
